Review of Cider Brook by Carla Neggers

Cider Brook is about treasure hunter Samantha Bennett, who is trying to solve a 300 year old mystery in Knights Bridge. She is also back to restore her good name.  Justin Sloan is a great looking, bad boy firefighter who remembers Samantha quite well. In fact, he was the one that got her fired from her last job.

Samantha was born into her profession as a result of her family being famous for their own archeological adventures, some that involved pirates. For the last two years, she has been cataloging possessions that once belonged to her late grandfather.  Among those, she finds a painting of Cider Mill and an unfinished novel, both clues that point to a pirate named Captain Farraday. She finds her way to the old cider mill to camp out and find out all the information she can in Knights Bridge.

Justin and Samantha aren’t friends.  Two years ago, she worked for a man familiar with Knights Bridge and failed to share some information about her past. It was Justin who exposed Samantha’s past to Duncan McCaffrey.  Duncan has since died and Samantha has felt regret over what happened.  She wants to make amends with his son, Dylan.  Her first night camped out in the woods, she is caught in a fire in the mill and is rescued by Justin.

Carla Neggers has been spinning stories ever since she climbed a tree with pad and pen at age 11. Now she has millions of copies of her books in print in more than 30 countries, and more than two dozen of her books have placed on the New York Times, USA TODAY and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists. Cider Brook is the third novel in her acclaimed Swift River Valley romantic mystery series that launched with Secrets of the Lost Summer and That Night on Thistle Lane. Secrets of the Lost Summer spent four weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and garnered rave reviews, including a starred review from Booklist and a Top Pick from RT Book Reviews. Growing up in rural western Massachusetts with three brothers and three sisters, Carla developed an eye for detail and a love of a good story. Her imagination, curiosity and sense of adventure are key to creating the complex relationships, fast-paced plots and deep sense of place in her books.
