Review of REDDEVIL 4 by Eric C. Leuthardt, M.D.

REDDEVIL 4 introduces us to Dr. Hagan Maerici, a well-known neurosurgeon, who is working on artificial intelligence implants that would change the way we think about the human mind. His work is suddenly put on hold when flood of brutal killings take place.

The murders have all been committed by important people who have no motives or prior histories of aggression. Edwin Krantz and his partner, Tara Dezner, are investigating the murders.  Edwin is an older police detective and hates technology. Tara is a former Navy Seal.

The investigators turn to Dr. Maerici to find answers. The doctor believes that someone is playing with the implants of the suspects and turning them into murderers. As they seek to discover the truth, they find themselves in danger, from both from human and artificial intelligence.  Moreover, the answer lies within Dr. Maerici’s work and a mistake he may have made. This potential mistake could endanger the lives of millions and destroy everything the doctor has done.

If you are a fan of the show, Almost Human, this is definitely the book for you. Eric Leuthardt, a neurosurgeon himself, has created a world dominated by humans fitted with implants which allow them access to the internet, function as communication devices and even seem like reality for the average person. Moreover, these implants stimulate signals to the brain so they act like a prosthetic for the human mind.

REDDEVIL 4 is a great science fiction thriller with the added twist of a murder mystery.   It will leave you guessing until the very end.
